Yep, Victoza® is now officially available in Spain. As of the 1st September you can purchase the medication over the counter if you are unable to get a prescription for it. However I am told that the drug has been used in certain clinical environments mainly hospital including my local one; Hospital de Torrevieja.
If you wanted to purchase this over the counter it will set you back €138,16, however with a prescription from a National Health Doctor it will be €2,64. They as one box of 2 pre-filled pens and contain 3 ml each.
Victoza® is a once-daily human GLP-1 (Glucagon-Like Peptide-1) analogue approved for the treatment of type 2 diabetes in adults.
Victoza® also, reduces body weight and body fat mass in people with type 2 diabetes through mechanisms involving reduced hunger and lowered energy intake.
Victoza® has been approved by a number of different regulatory agencies as a once-daily injection for the treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus to achieve glycaemic control. Victoza® has received:
Approval by EMA (Europe) in combination with:
- Metformin or a sulphonylurea in patients with insufficient glycaemic control despite maximal tolerated dose of monotherapy with metformin or sulphonylurea.
- Metformin and a sulphonylurea or metformin and a thiazolidinedione in patients with insufficient glycaemic control despite dual therapy.
